Physical Treatment

Pump Stations:

Pipes Wastewater enters the facility from the interceptor sewers that utilize pump stations and gravity to allow the influent (wastewater) from homes, businesses, hospitals, factories, and schools to flow into FRWRD plants.

The influent flow enters the headworks and is passed through either the bar screens or the grinders followed by the grit removal. During this process large and small abrasive materials are removed. The grit and inorganic materials are then sent to the landfill for disposal.

Primary Clarifiers:

Primary Clarifier After the abrasive materials are removed from the water, the flow enters the Primary Clarifiers tanks. Within the tanks, solids are separated from the water. Heavy solids settle to the bottom of the tank as sludge, while fats, oils, and grease (FOG) float to the top. The FOG is removed by skimming the water.

The West Plant sludge is pumped directly to ADP for processing. The ADP and North Plants primary sludge is pumped to primary ferments prior to entering the solid treatment process.
