The water then flows into the Chlorine Contact Tanks. By this point in the treatment process, 80%-85% of the impurities have been removed. Chlorine and sodium hypochlorite is added to destroy any pathogens in the water. 

Discharge to the Fox River: 

River outflow Sulfur dioxide and sodium bisulfite is used to take the chlorine out of the water just prior to discharge to the river to protect the ecosystem in the receiving stream. All three of FRWRD facilities discharge to the Fox River with 95%-98% of the impurities removed.
